Couples Therapy

July 26 2015

All relationships require work from both parties! Whether you’re trying to strengthen your relationship through seeking improved intimacy and understanding, or considering separation almost all couples would benefit from couples counseling at some point in the course of their relationship. Relationship counseling / Couples Therapy can be specially valuable for couples who

  1. Have frequent or continual arguing with their partner
  2. There is a lack of communication with their partner
  3. There is a pattern of angry projections for the conflicts onto their partner
  4. There is marital separation
  5. Pending divorce
  6. One or both partners consider having an affair, or one partner has had an affair.
  7. When a couple is staying in the relationship for the sake of the children

As a licensed marriage and family therapist, I can assist couples in developing the necessary skills for effective, open communication, mutually satisfying sexual intimacy, and most importantly enjoyable time for companionship within the relationship. I will also help increase awareness of their own role in the relationship conflicts and learn to identify escalating behaviors that lead to negative behaviors.

So how do couples know if their relationship has hit a rough patch and needs professional help? These are some questions to consider:

  • Do you and your significant other barely speak or when you do, it turns into a fight
  • Do you constantly bicker, even about the most meaningless topics?
  • Are you keeping secrets from each other?
  • Are you having financial problems, which is leading to constant arguments?
  • Does your partner have a temper problem?
  • Have you or your partner recently had an affair?  Are both of you trying to recover from the affair?
  • What effect did the discovery of the affair have on your relationship?
